Trump's GOP? Reactions to the 2022 midterms, Trump announces as a 2024 candidate, etc.
Welcome to my very first Substack! With the holidays just around the corner, I’m thinking a lot about the fractured nature of American political parties and the various improvisational ties that bind them, about the difference between Trump and Trumpism, and about how the legacy of the 2016 election shapes our politics now.
That’s probably why I don’t get invited to more holiday parties.
I’m using this as a newsletter to share various content I’ve created - I’m writing all around the web lately, including at Grid, and on Mischiefs of Faction, in addition to podcasting and offering commentary to as many places as my energy allows. Hoping to use this as a space to put it all in one place.
Hottest take - We talk a lot about how establishment Republicans have warmed to Trump but not enough about how there’s enough tension between them that we have to keep asking that question - my latest thoughts on Trump and the GOP, at Mischiefs of Faction
I had a lot to say about the 2022 midterms:
At Grid News - “Why the Republicans Missed Out on a Red Wave” - in which I theorize that midterm politics are about organized social movements as much as about some magic “thermostasis” in the electorate.
At The Hundred - my 100 words on Trump and the GOP after the midterms
At Time - some commentary about the elections alongside other scholars
